Professional Experience...

I have been in practice for over 25 years, with the last 7 years in private practice.   My office is now located at 1200 Valley West Drive, Suite 206-20 in West Des Moines (previously I had been at 6600 Westown Pkwy, Suite 240, West Des Moines).   Prior to this, I was a therapist at Des Moines University for nearly 6 years and at Wadle & Associates for nearly 7 years.

My past experience has included working in several area counseling centers providing individual, couple, marital, family and group counseling.  I have facilitated many divorce healing groups, as well as an ongoing outpatient chemical dependency group, and pre-marital groups.  I have also worked with abused women and rape victims, youth in crisis at a local shelter, children in a day treatment setting, and provided therapy in a Native American school.

My areas of expertise include working with clients to find healthy ways of managing their emotions, recognizing their strengths, and moving out of unhealthy patterns.  I have skill dealing with issues that include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, divorce healing, issues related to trauma/victimization, attachment issues, managing bipolar disorder, understanding ADHD, moving out of an addictive process, and ending obsessive/compulsive patterns.  I enjoy working with couples in supporting the process of strengthening their relationship and fostering a greater understanding and ability to maneuver through conflict.  I recognize and respect the diversity of all clients including gay and cultural identities.

I have a PhD in Counselor Education, specializing in Community Counseling which particularly focuses on the strength and resiliency of clients.  My degree also provided an emphasis in Human Development & Family Studies, which promotes a systemic view and assists in recognizing the importance of our relationships with others.  My Bachelor degree was in Psychology.

I am a licensed mental health counselor with the State of Iowa, a Nationally Certified Counselor, a member of the American Counseling Association, have completed Levels 1 and 2 in Gottman Method Couples Therapy as well as focused training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
